A lot has been happening in Vancouver since the last time we posted.
Recently, in downtown Vancouver at Pacific Centre a new H&M flagship store and the first Apple Store in Western Canada had their respective grand openings.
I must say, the new H&M was quite a sight, dare say "boxing day in May".
I went this weekend on Saturday (two days after their official grand opening) and it was PACKED, filled with anxious shoppers scrambling for sizes, and even fighting over clothes.
This new H&M is a new Vancouver fashion mecca. However, there's really no need to scramble and fight over clothes there because a salesgirl happened to spill the beans on H&M's current success: new shipments DAILY. That's right DAILY. I've never heard of any store that does so well that they need to restock daily.

PAFICIC CENTRE APPLE STORE GRAND OPENING
So, I found out that the first 1,000 people through the door of the Apple Store in Vancouver get a limited edition T-shirt that says "(apple picture) Pacific Centre" from Stylespy.com, so how could I resist? I woke up at approximately 7AM on Saturday, thinking that I would beat the traffic and get there to line up first. However, I decided that there wouldn't be that many people there since all the products being sold at the Apple Store could be purchased elsewhere-the iphone was not released on grand opening day which was quite surprising as that would have probably generated skyrocketing sales. So, by the time I actually got downtown around 10am ish the amount of people in the line was surprising. A HUGE line came out of Pacific Centre and wrapped almost all the way around to the dome area. I ended up buying a clear ipod nano case since they had them in stock and were pretty much sold out everywhere else I looked. I was lucky enough to be in the first 1,000 people and I got the tshirt :)!...although I still haven't opened the box yet...

and..we're back. after a ridiculously long hiatus.
there's been an interesting trend lately.
dare i say it, a 'recycle theme'
where all things old become new again.
and okay..this is totally off topic and sort of old news, but
the first season of project runway canada rocked. never have i seen such amazing creative talent squeezed out of designers in a reality tv series that conveyed so much art, beauty and genius.
evan biddell, carlie wong, mj and lucian matias were absolutely phenomenal designers. Each had their own artistic flair and distinct infusion of haute couture, the clothes created for the challenges on the show were sooo innovative and exceptionally well done under the time constraints. Well, what i'm REALLY wondering, is when are they going to start selling their designs to the public? i mean, i hate to admit but i'm really kind of 'addicted2biddell' (haha he's even got a website for tshirts that say that!)

Its this irrational craving for shoes...especially these pseudo-chanel shoes that have been popping up in the last few seasons. Luckily, a lot of retailers have caught on, which satisfies my sweet craving for shoes. ( YAY for not making me choose between food and clothes!)

And double yay for the fact that is sale season so... all the lovies are just one step closer to a good home. Take for instance....

Jumpon from NineWest: its on sale. its so cute... its so "I-hope-no-one-gets-them-in-a-size-6"-- It's a serious "LOVE YOU but Grr if you take my shoes" situation. I wouldn't mind if they were quilted... but then again, its a tad overkill if it were..

I just recently got a pair of heels with this flair and can't wait to wear them out.. except for the fact that I'll probably slip on the very rain soaked pavement and break my ankle.

But speaking of ridiculously high heels, I'll definitely break my neck wearing these.

Today's weather sparked an opportunity to check out Vancouver's "The Umbrella Shop" website. It's so much fun shopping for umbrellas because its a melding of practicality and style. If it weren't for Vancouver's beautiful summers, I seriously could not live here. But perusing umbrellas and other gear make it tolerable. LOL--actually, its just plain awesome.

Of course, part of the fun is the deliberation process: smaller umbrella or more stability? beautiful print or a lower price point? golf umbrellas or single person umbrellas?

Bubble Umbrella: I bought this model from the umbrella shop a while back... but it mysteriously "just broke because it was getting old". At least thats what my brother said after borrowing it. Luckily, the umbrella shop offers repair services for their products, assuming its general condition warrants it.

Art Print O/C Folding: What a novelty! It looks just like the top of an antique Tiffany lamp. "Placed on a convieniant automatic frame, this 48" inch arc umbrella has fiberglass ribs for extra strength." I think this could really brighten up the prospect of waiting at the bus stop in the rain. If it weren't for the fact that giving umbrellas is a huge faux pas traditionally, it would make a great present. I suppose it'll just have to be a present for myself then. It comes in a folding umbrella style too. (I ended up buying this one!)

Doorman: Great design. Its labeled as a golf umbrella so I suppose its one of those massive umbrellas that can cover 2 people comfortably. Con: ...not sure yet. Im sure my overly critical self will come up with something soon... might be too big? NAH> out of propotion things like coffee cups, sunglasses and bags are way cool.

Pagoda: Pro: Just look at it-- its a work of art! Its designed by "the umbrella shop" to "recreate a historical look with modern colours and strength." The white is my favorite, but it comes in other colors such as black, lime, an electric tinge of purple, and a shade of pink called dragonfuit. Con: I can only get one? ( I ended up buying this one too!)

Which leads me to my next point...

Pagodina: Or as I call it, the super pagoda. It reminds me of how sailor moon gets upgrades, power and wardrobe wise, after each season. Its made in italy, which means it either a very well made umbrella or a justification for "euro" price. But my goodness is it pretty!

I know, its so hard to choose.

Looking at Holt Renfrew Vancouver with Fresh Eyes

Despite the fact the new Holt Renfrew Vancouver has been open for a while, it still seems to be unexplored except by the upper echelons of Vancouver's fashion enthusiasts, or by window shopping athletes like me. Frankly, even fashion worshipers have lives that create obstacles while we make our way towards our local Meccas.

Walking in, my first reaction was "... its so... beautiful". Its so shiny new and gleaming-- consumerism's utopia.

While playing Dorothy in the land over a rainbow of Chole dresses, Shu Uemura eyelash curlers, and discounted Manolos.

But the real fun was when we, E&G, made our way towards the Dior makeup counter. Its stowed away from the rest of the cosmetic counters but I like to think of it as a niche for my future makeup needs.

We got such a nice girl who understood the makeup paradox--should look like its non existent. Plus we figured out the forever unanswered formula to...how to get rid of dark circles. (If you want her name, let us know!)

So it goes like this..

Seriously, its 2 great things that go great 2gether! Just be sure that the undereye area is well moisturized before applying the concealer because the undereye area is prone to dryness and icky creasing. So its concealer, and then the skin flash. Be sure to put some on your eyelids too, reducing the fatigued look. Truly the results are quite amazing.
